My son and I are swapping out a 196 4cyl for a 345 v8 this coming next two weekends. The 4cyl is in a 1977 Scout II, is complete long-block with carb, 4spd flywheel, harmonic balancer. Engine has approx. 18,000 miles (if that) since rebuild and runs just fine. I will be having it smogged before I pull it out so that you can see it's condition. It's been smogged ever two years for the last 20 yrs. with no problem. The great part about this 196 is that I get 20 mpg on the highway with it (not bad). Anyway, as I am not familiar with what these engines go for, make me an offer.
