Do I have to disconnect the rear drive shaft?
T-case in neutral?

It is a stick shift but I would like to know the proper way for both stick as well as automatic.

best for long trips is trans in park or 1st transfer case in 2wd with rear drive line removed,least amount of drag.
or trans in park / 1st with transfer case in neutral and front axle hubs locked ,the rotating front drive line will lubricate
the rear output shaft bearings.

It's my understanding that flat towing with a D300 can cause severe wear and possibly a fire if the rear driveshaft is not disconnected.

The rear output does not get any lubrication which causes heat and worst case a fire. I don't remember all the specific details but Tri-County gear used to take apart the case then weld paddles on a specific gear so it would splash gear oil inside the case and onto the seal.

I am setting up for flat tow as we speak I've done lots of research on binder planet. I have an auto transmission and looks like the best way to go is the disconnect the drive shaft from the rear differential and put it in neutral done deal
